TEACHER BIO:

Joslin has a M.Ed. from University of Utah and B.S. in Psychology from James Madison University, as well as an Educational Specialist and School Counseling Degree from University of Georgia. She is a licensed school counselor in grades Pre-K through 12.

Joslin recently moved back to the area and is currently as a substitute teacher at Fairfax County Public Schools and hopes to obtain a school counselor role within a local district this upcoming fall.

Joslin has nearly twenty years of experience working with elementary through high school students as a teacher and guidance counselor. Most recently, Joslin spent three years in a leadership role with Cobb County School District (CCSD) in Georgia as a District Trainer and Wellness Specialist. In this capacity, she supported 110 schools, trained middle and high school students in healthy coping strategies, created and delivered district-wide training on bullying prevention, and worked as a core member of the district crisis team.

Previously, she spent four years as a guidance counselor at an elementary school in Utah and thirteen years as an elementary guidance counselor with the CCSD. In addition to supporting students’ academic, social and emotional development through individual and small group counseling, she also attended 504 and IEP meetings and supported students in small groups for assessments.

In addition, Joslin served a year and a half as a tutor with America Reads, where she provided one-on-one and small group reading and math support to K-5 students. She also spent a year with CCSD’s after school program. In this capacity, she tutored students after school and led engaging activities and games. Joslin has extensive experience working with IEP, 504, Dyslexic and ADHD students, as well as those on the spectrum.

Joslin is a warm, encouraging and patient teacher. She excels at building a positive rapport with her students. Joslin strives to make sure that her students feel seen and heard and works with them to build up their confidence through consistency and an environment where they feel comfortable. When beginning to work with a new class, she likes to establish relationships first, taking the time to get to know each student as a whole person, and learning about their feelings towards school, as well as their interests outside of the classroom. Joslin’s favorite part of teaching is having the opportunity to not only encourage them in a way that has a lasting effect, but also impact how they feel about learning and facing new challenges.

Joslin is a DMV native and graduated from Langley High School. Joslin’s hobbies include: watching sports, going for walks and hikes, baking, container gardening, watching movies and trying different coffee shops. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially her mom and her dog!
